Thank You SLINC and Community Members!
In April 2017 a motion was carried for SLINC to match all members’ donations to support the strikers of CUPE 2073 to a maximum of $500.
We are thrilled to let you know, our interpreting community came through with amazing support!
We quickly realized, as individual donations poured in from the interpreting communities, the $500 level would soon be achieved. ISEP jumped in, adding $100 of support, and SLIAO matched SLINC's $500 contribution!
At the deadline, we had collected a total of $2,300! Each of the 23 striking CUPE 2073 members received a gift card of $100 for groceries.
On May 4th at 12 noon, we presented the funds to the CUPE 2073 members on the picket line at Riverside and Bank Street in Ottawa. (photo above)
While some contributors want to remain anonymous, we would like to thank all our supporters. Thanks also to Jamie Packard for assisting in coordinating the emails and questions.
I'm sure you join us in sending your on-going support to those on the picket line and hoping that the strike will soon be resolved.
